Discipline.
Wait. Don’t run for the hills. Hear me out.
Did you know that discipline is one of the greatest forms of self-love?
Being disciplined and having structure around what and who matters most, who you are, and why you’re here is a skill that allows you to create space and energy for whatever it is you care about, including yourself.
I’ve learned structure and discipline through business, and especially through the iMatter Success System, for the past 20 years. I’m always learning and teaching it - which makes me improve even more!
I used to be afraid that I’d miss out on spontaneity, creativity, and laughter with discipline. But I’ve realized that discipline actually gives you space and freedom to find spontaneity within the structure.
The iMatter Success System teaches us to have structure— day by day all the way up to a 10-year plan. It takes time to set up, but when it works, it’s magic.
I have a weekly discipline for myself. It’s my clarity break, my “Take 5” check-in where I tune in with myself, list out my issues, and break down my thinking. If I don’t do my weekly “Take 5” and share my thoughts with my wife and team, I can go a little crazy.
I also have a daily discipline where I spend a few minutes assessing my “3-3-1”.
3 things that matter most to me today
3 priorities/action items
1 “If it were up to me…”
It’s important to have something finite and structured in these trying times. And the more you give yourself a structure, the freer you’ll feel to elevate yourself, your family, and your team.
Don’t run from discipline. Run towards it.
