BEING A GREAT LEADER

How do we continue to grow as leaders?

One thing for me as a Visionary leader is when I have some thoughts, even when they’re not great ideas, I need to share them with someone and get them out of my head. My team and I can then decide which ones to really focus on and move forward with. I’ve been called particular before, which I am, and that’s okay. When you have an idea, share what that looks like, share how it’s going to come to be and try to inspire others. Yet, I get frustrated when I share things, and then people aren’t acting on what we’ve decided on.

A couple of things that I’m still learning to be a great leader:

Simply explain the vision. Sometimes I’m saying it differently or it’s all over the place and long. Keep it simple.

It takes seven times for someone to hear something for the first time. If I tell you my vision and it’s not going anywhere, I get pissed. Say it seven times.

Be patient. Too often I haven’t been clear, it wasn’t simple, I only said it once or twice, I may not have even said it ever; then I get mad. That’s not being a great leader.

Keep it simple. Explain it seven times. Be patient.

If I'm not clear in what I want then I’m probably not going to get it.

Get used to sharing your thoughts and ideas with people multiple times, simplifying it, and being patient.

It pays off, but believe me, I’m still learning.
